Giada's trip to Java- immersing herself into life as an artisan

Last year, we launched our much loved Giada Collection, a line inspired by the ocean: its freedom, its rhythm, and the beauty it holds beneath the surface. 

A professional surfer, born and raised in Bali, Giada speaks the local language, carries that effortless island spirit, and has a deep love for the sea. Customers have fallen for her designs- from shimmering pearls and dainty gold pieces to vibrant blue and pink beads, cowrie shells, and other ocean treasures. Her collection quickly became a favourite among our community of beach lovers. 

Having shown her collection so much love, this year we've invited Giada back to create some brand new designs and fully immerse herself into artisan life.

At Pineapple Island, we’re not just proud of our jewellery- we’re proud of how it’s made and who makes it. Behind every piece are incredibly talented artisans, whose skill, dedication, and creativity deserve to be shared with the world. We’ve dreamed of creating a trip that would celebrate their craft, tell their stories, and shine a spotlight on the often-unsung heroes of handmade jewellery.

Who better to take on this adventure than Giada?

This time, she wasn’t just designing for her collection- she was heading deep into the heart of our production process. Travelling alongside Trevi, our head artisan from Bali, Giada journeyed to Java to meet Usep, our production partner, and the team of artisans who bring our designs to life.

For us, it was about more than just creating new pieces. We wanted Giada to fully immerse herself in maker life- to understand the dedication, the workspace, the craft, and the culture that surrounds everything Pineapple Island stands for.

From the moment she arrived, Giada got stuck into artisan life. She learned jewellery-making techniques first-hand, experimented with new designs, and got to know the artisans not just as colleagues, but as friends. Finding out about their hobbies, their family life, and what they enjoy about working as a jewellery maker in their own language. They shared meals, stories, and laughter- moments away from jewellery making that built real connections.

As Giada put it,

“After spending my first day here you can see that they're not just artisans, they're mothers, fathers, they're friends, they're family, they're care takers, and everyone has such an important role here- it really feels like community.”

Giada left Java with a deeper connection to the people behind our jewellery, gaining an intimate understanding of the skill, passion, and artistry that bring Pineapple Island’s creations to life. And we are so excited to share this journey with you.
