Low-cost Christmas Activities 2023

With the madness of Christmas buzzing in the air, it's easy to get wrapped up in all the jobs you need to complete for the big event. This can result in feeling tired, frazzled, and disconnected from everyone, not to mention a bit light in the pocket.

So this blog hopes to give you low-budget activity inspiration and gently guide you back to what this season is truly about celebrating good, slow times with the people you care about and making a close-knit community with them to create wonderful memories that you'll treasure.

  • Perhaps the most simple and budget-friendly option of them all. All you have to do is bundle up warm against the crisp winter air (these organic jumpers that will keep you cosy) and off you go! Make sure to turn off your phone and just enjoy being present in nature. We recommend using the AllTrails app to find hikes close to you, and you can tailor them depending on how far or long you want to hike.

  • Go to your local library with your loved ones where everyone picks out a book for someone else. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the company of each other and reading your books, curled up with blankets, scented candles, and a hot drink.
  • Embrace the magic of the season with festive light displays! Take a stroll through illuminated neighbourhoods for a delightful evening everyone can enjoy. Feeling inspired? Spark community connections by swapping decorations with your neighbours—an easy, budget-friendly way to build lasting relationships.

  • Host a hot chocolate night. Everyone has to bring a different topping to enjoy sprinkled on top of their drink. Some of our favourites toppings are whipped cream, marshmallows, smarties, cookies, truffles, and chocolate/caramel sauce. Yum!
  • Have a game night. Get everyone over and ask everyone to bring a game that they bought from a charity shop, such as a puzzle, or invent a game themselves. It's a great way to challenge your brain, whilst laughing.

  • Bake some gingerbread men. Google is always your best friend in these types of situations; search for an easy recipe, slip on an apron, and then you and your loved ones can star in your very own British Bake-off. Spread the joy by sharing your festive treats with someone who could use a pick-me-up.
  • Go for a run. It's important to keep moving your body in these colder months, so slipping on your headphones and blasting your favourite tunes is a great way to treat your mind and body. Bring someone along for motivation and if you feel festive, pop on some Christmas accessories for some fun! Charity shops and second-hand apps such as Vinted will have plenty of festive headbands, tops, or jumpers to wear.
